The process of building your home can be a complicated and overwhelming experience. At GFL Construction, we strive to reduce your stress during the planning and building stages. We’ve mapped out some things to consider as you, the homeowner, start thinking about your dream home build. There are a few important topics you will want to consider and execute, in order to have the best possible experience.

Know that there are many unknowns that pop up along the way. That said, there are quite a few steps that we can intuit and expect when building your home. At GFL Construction, we take our role seriously and work to create your dream home, with professional conduct, industry professionalism and friendly service. We know your home build project is top priority and we do everything we can to ensure you have a great experience with our company.

FIRST STEPS

Determining your criteria for the people you’ve selected for your project is an important first step. Architects, real estate agents, interior designers, and of course the builder, are all people you’ll want to consider for the project. Who you choose will ultimately be your go-to team and you’ll want the best team possible for the job. Taking some time to research who you want on your team is a key first step. Check out some of the previous projects done by the members on your team. This gives you insight into their abilities as well as the finished product, which helps you determine their competency for your project.

Another first step to consider is how you want to communicate with your selected team. Establishing a consistent communication practice with all team members will help to ensure nothing gets lost in translation. You’ll want to record all changes, as you go along. Keeping a record of those changes helps everyone keep track of roles and responsibilities.

EXPECTATIONS

Making your expectations known from day one is an important point to consider. This is your home, so knowing and communicating your expectations is a must. Homes can take anywhere from 3 months to a year, to build. Sharing your expectations gives the other team members a chance to weigh in on whether or not they can meet your expectations.

Often there are things homeowners haven’t considered. Sharing gives everyone a chance to contribute their own expectations for the project. Building permits, zoning laws and availability will determine the timeline for your project. Be sure to discuss these important issues with your selected team so everyone is on the same page. There is nothing worse than being blindsided by unexpected wait times, so discussing realistic timing is important.

KEEP PERSPECTIVE

Realistically, the building process can be complicated, frustrating and overwhelming. Keeping perspective about the project will help you manage some of those frustrations. Healthy communication with each person on your selected team, is the key to a successful completion. As long as you go into the project with some realistic expectations, along with a carefully selected team, you’re bound to end up with a smile on your face. Our goal is to build your home with the utmost respect and professionalism possible. At GFL Construction, we prioritize your home and apply our skill, experience and wisdom to every step along the way.
